Here are some of the things we did in March. A group of moms in our neighborhood decided that it would be fun for our kids to do "A Trip Around the World." Each month one of the moms takes a turn and teaches the children about a different country, show them where it is located on a map, have a craft, and let them taste food from that country. Each child has a little passport with their pictures that they get stamped for each country they visit.
March was my turn and I chose to do England. It was a lot of fun. We started with their craft which was decorating their plates and cups and finger painting the Flag of England. Then I had them sit in front of the TV while I play a video from YouTube of a plane taking off and landing. Once their plane landed we stamped their passports and I had a slide show of popular places to visit in England. The kids favorite was when I went over the vocabulary words listed below. They thought they were hilarious and would laugh at each one.
Then I explained about afternoon and evening tea and we had a little tea party (with pink lemonade to drink) with the plates and cups they decorated.
Our kids got really into St. Patrick's Day this year. In pre-school Callie was taught about the mischievous leprechauns and somehow came to the assumption that there is a leprechaun in every one's houses. The leprechaun messed up and moved around things in Callie's and Jace's rooms. They loved this and kept running around the house trying to find the "silly leprechaun." Soon everything that was out of place in our house was blamed on the leprechaun. This actually lasted for a couple of weeks afterwards. Just the other day Jace started crying and Callie insisted that she did not touch him and them went on to ask "Jace did the leprechaun pinch you because I didn't touch you? Was it the leprechaun?" I was trying not to laugh. Below is a picture of our special St. Patrick's Day meal. We had green eggs and gold coin pancakes.
